Background

anavarra.com is a travel agency located in Pamplona (Navarra, Spain), whose aim is both helping visitors coming to Navarra and offering the best offers and packages for travellers around the world.

The agency, along with Beta Lyrae and Exea Comunicación at graphic design, launched the website www.voyaviajar.es in order to offer its services to anyone wishing to travel, offering them the best opportunities, as well as the possibility to book online flights, hotels, cruises, car rentals etc.

The system

The web application at VoyaViajar.es consists essentially of two parts:

• The Internet website
• A local application for entering and publishing travel offers.

The website at www.voyaviajar.es displays the agency current travel offers, organised along different categories (holidays, coast resorts, Caribbean, etc.). Users can browse highlighted packages, or search them using their preferred criteria, as date, destination, price etc.

Agency staff use a desktop application to configure and upload travel packages. This application allows the user, in a simple and agile way, to upload packages to the website, and in an automated parallel way, to other websites the agency maintains commercial agreements with.

Uploading to these third party sites is performed via standard technologies (mainly http and xml).

Technical specifications

The website was developed using PHP on a MySQL database (LAMP platform). The desktop application, as well as the web backend used by it, was developed using the Java platform. Desktop application is packaged as a standard Windows executable, with the habitual Windows look and feel.

Communicaction between desktop application and website is performed via Web Services and XML.
