According to recent studies, the European Commission estimates that, every year, 11% of European SMEs lose export business opportunities due to lack of foreign language skills in their teams.
Thus, the Employment Service of Navarre (SNE) has developed the Lingua Empresa Programme proposing a new training model in the field of in-company language training, with the overall goal of:
Within Lingua Empresa, Melissa is a Teaching Resources Mediatheque for training in foreign languages.
The project was developed in a close collaboation with professionals Augusto Esquíroz, Marian Salaverría and Begoña Alecha, with graphical design carried out by In The Middle.
It is a web application offering free access to resources and programmed activities created to support foreign language training (developed and/or selected into GERELE action) that allows teachers to select and prepare courses based on their pupils' needs. Pupils will also be able to access resources and activities within Melissa, for them to do their training in their spare time.
Each user enters with a defined profile, which defines which information will be reachable, which not, and what are the contents the user will be able to modify.
Melissa is a web application built on Java Enperprise platform, deployed on a Linux system. The system was integrated directly into the server Lingua Empresa program was already using for their previous applications.
Users can perform searches, view and update information (subject to their profile permissions), as well as generating several standarised documents in PDF format, all of them related to Lingua Empresa program.
