Background

Searching for an online parts catalogue, TCI Cutting contacted Beta Lyrae regarding the system we had already deployed in other companies. The company were seeking a catalogue for their machines and applicable spare parts, which their customers could use to gather techical information about TCI Cutting laser and water jet-based machines and, if they wish, order them online or otherwise ask for a quotation.

EPC

This is a web application that uses data from the Engineering Department, offering users the possibility of performing searches, browsing machines by their families, obtaining printable versions in PDF format and sending orders, which are received at the main TCI Cutting plant to be processed.

Users are managed from an administration interface, reserved to selected TCI Cutting staff, where different access profiles can be assigned to users. Also, filters can be set up so that information is either shown or hidden to certain selected users.

This administration tool also allows TCI Cutting staff to manage the whole stored data, adding or editing machines and parts. This way, the company has real time complete control on their EPC content, as well as what their cutsomers can or cannot see.

The application also allows TCI Cutting users to directly upload Excel files created by the Engineering staff, thus notably simplifying many work processes and integrating them into the company work flow. This way, the complete information on a machine can be imported into the system just by providing:

• An Excel file containing the parts list
• An image showing the machine exploded view.
• Optionally, the drawing in high resolution version can also be uploaded, in pdf format

The system was developed using PHP and Java technology.

TCICutting was founded more than a decade ago, after six years of hard research and development work on water jet and laser cutting. This Spanish company, based in Guadassuar (Valencia), makes water jet and laser cutting machines.

The company, in the person of its Managing Director Emilio Mateu Sentamans, was awarded in 2010 the internationally renowned Jaume I "Entrepeneurs" prize for their passion and dedication to research and development, which allowed the continuous evolution of the company and their products.
